Rites of Passage Requirements

  • Male high school graduating senior, Class of 2020 of African descent

  • Minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75/4.0 

  • College bound to an accredited institution of higher education for the 2020 fall semester/quarter.

  • Demonstrated commitment to personal growth by participating in secular or religious youth organizations, athletics, student government, academic or other organizations

  • Must complete their individual 360 Survey with application (link sent to applicant after on-line application is received)

  • Demonstrated commitment to community service by meeting the minimum fundraising requirement of $800

  • Participation fee $300 (Due after child is accepted)

Letter of Recommendation

  • Your letter of recommendation must be completed by a  counselor or teacher.  It should detail how this person knows you, the length of time she/he has known you and in the event the committee has questions, it should also include contact information (email, phone #)

  • This letter of recommendation should also address issues such as your intellectual promise, leadership potential, initiative, maturity, independence, concern for others and any special talents.  

Note:  If GPA is between 2.5-2.75 a 2nd letter of recommendation will be required from a teacher, counselor or coach.

Verification Letter & Mandatory Waivers

Verification Letter

The verification letter may either be on school letterhead or the attached verification letter form must be completed.

The letter must meet the following criteria:

  1. Certify that the Initiate is in the 12th grade, in good academic standing with the minimum GPA and is currently a candidate for graduation in 2020.

  2. Bear the administrator's name, title, signature, office telephone # or email address.

Three Mandatory Waivers are required for participation in Rites of Passage (Waivers are due after acceptance.  Your child cannot participate until waivers are signed)

  1. Minor Transportation Waiver

  2. Retreat Waiver (Minneapolis Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc.)

  3. Retreat Waiver (Camp Iduhapi YMCA or Prior Lake) 

Application is Complete When:

  1. Completed application form with checked consent box

  2. Participation Agreement 

  • Initiate Agreement (signed)

  • Parent/Guardian Agreement (signed)

  3. Counselor Letter of Verification

  4.  Letter of Recommendation (2nd letter if GPA is                      between 2.5 and 2.75)   

​  5. 5-7 Emails addresses for 360 Survey participants​

  6. Participation fee of $300 ( Two methods:

      a.) On-line all major cc accepted

      b.) By Check: Make all checks/cashiers                                     checks/money orders payable to Jack and Jill of               America, Inc. Minneapolis Chapter).


NOTE: Waivers must be completed before your child can participate in ROP activities.  They will be made available via the Parents Portal once the applicant is accepted:

  • Minor Transportation Waiver

  • Retreat Waiver (Minneapolis Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc.)

  • Retreat Waiver (YMCA Camp Induhapi)

All data submitted through this website is protected with multiple layers of security, including leading encryption technology like HTTPS and Transport Layer Security. Encryption brings a higher level of security and privacy to the website.  The data is stored on private servers.  Only authorized leaders of Jack and Jill of America, Inc., Minneapolis Chapter and Rites of Passage Activity Co-Chairs have access to the application data.  The data is used for program purposes only.  The organization does not share nor sell data to 3rd parties.
